Building Safer Communities Together: How Careium and Moat Support Those in Need

Every individual deserves to feel safe at home. That simple idea is at the core of the work Moat Housing does every day, and it’s a goal we are proud to support.

Our partnership with Moat Housing is built on providing a reliable telecare service, with our team at the Alarm Receiving Centre (ARC) there to help residents 24/7. But we wanted to do more to directly support Moat’s social value offer and community-focused goals.

For victims/survivors of domestic abuse, the path to safety isn’t always straightforward. Some individuals aren’t ready to involve the police directly, leaving them vulnerable. So, we worked with Moat to provide free Abby outdoor alarms to residents who are victims/survivors of domestic abuse. This practical tool enables us to listen in and alert emergency services if the individual is in trouble. This wasn’t just about providing equipment; it was about aligning with Moat’s wider focus, like helping people gain independence, supporting victims/survivors, and reducing isolation, by first making sure they feel safe.

For the team at Moat, this practical support has made a real difference. Katee Swallow, Domestic Abuse Specialist at Moat, shared, “This is a vital tool which supports vulnerable customers in need. It provides another option for someone who is hesitant about going to the police. Knowing they have a GPS tracker and a direct link to Careium allows them to feel safer, both at home and when they’re out.”

By helping to alleviate the constant fear of abuse, we hope this small contribution helps create a foundation for a better life. For Moat, an organisation which prides itself on putting its customers first, it’s about having more ways to support those in need.

This collaboration is exactly what drives our approach to social value. As Lauren Purser, Commercial Director at Careium, puts it: “Our job is to listen to the challenges our partners face and find practical ways to help. Supporting Moat with these alarms wasn’t a box-ticking exercise; it was about giving them a tangible tool to change someone’s life. When we can help create a sense of safety for just one person, that’s what true value is all about.”
